Foot care is very important for everyone but more so diabetics. If you experience the following:
pain or loss of feeling in your feet (numbness, tingling)
changes in the shape of your feet or toes
sores, cuts, cracks, or ulcers on your feet that do not heal.
It’s time to start a foot care regiment. If it is excessive, contact a physician. Otherwise, Thera-Mate’s tools can assist the daily maintenance that may keep you out of the hospital.
First is inspection. Check your feet for cuts, sores, red spots, swelling, and infected toenails. If you cannot bend to see the bottom of your feet, use Thera-Mate’s mirror attachment. As you gently remove the dead tissue on the soles, check for redness that can be caused by aggressive planing. Remember, those nerve endings will be revived, but do this in a timely fashion.
Next, reviving the skin. You may have foot problems without notice. It’s conceivable you feel no pain due to nerve damage. Our feet contain 7,000 nerve endings that control most of our body organs and their activity. Â Poor management of your feet can lead to peripheral neuropathy. Carefully reduce callus, chaffing, and split heals and applying creams or lotion will rejuvenate worn skin.Â
NOTE: when using the exfoliation pad, over aggressive planing can result in damage. Foot repair does not happen instantly. Confer with your doctor or Podiatrist when maintenance is not improving your feets’ condition.
